Application observability startup groundcover Inc. today gave outside artificial intelligence coding agents such as Anthropic PBC’s Claude and OpenAI Group PBC’s Codex a way to hand production investigations to its own observability agent.

External AI agents like Claude, Cursor, Kiro and Codex can now query groundcover's production data directly or delegate deep investigations to its observability agent

Over the past couple of years, I’ve seen many observability vendors re-shipping their existing application performance monitoring (APM) products with some cute AI vectors like token usage, tool calls and model usage breakdown bolted on. But that’s not really a rethink. That’s a nice UI upgrade.

Shahar Azulay had never sold anything before he co-founded groundcover, so he learned by closing his first dozen customers at almost any price they would pay. He asked his first customer for $100,000, got talked down to $10,000 a year, and said yes to a product that had no user interface yet.

For fifteen years, observability lived downstream of everything else. Code shipped, something broke, an engineer went to the dashboards. The job was forensic.

It’s a seemingly simple question, but there isn’t a satisfying answer today.

Governed by admin-level controls and per-user permissions, new connectors and customizable agent skills put telemetry-aware AI agents to work in tools like Slack, Linear and GitHub

Software engineer at groundcover, Avital Tamir, argues that AI code review and rigorous self-review can replace slow peer review, cutting bottlenecks in dev teams.

Enterprises adopting AI face a risk most vendors do not talk about openly: your observability data, including PII and customer prompts, may be flowing to third-party infrastructure you do not control.

The obvious use case is incident investigation: Ask a question, get a summary, identify a suspicious deployment, find the slow endpoint, maybe save an engineer a few minutes during an incident.

Devops teams must implement observability standards now to avoid the coming wave of AI technical debt.

For years, observability was supposed to be the great equalizer. The way every team could understand their systems, debug faster, and ship with confidence. But somewhere along the way, it became the opposite: Complex, expensive, and increasingly constrained.

Modern software platforms are increasingly composed of diverse microservices, third-party APIs, and cloud resources.

As telemetry volumes grow and costs rise, the default recommendation is often to collect less data: Sample more, retain less, index selectively, filter earlier, and reduce cardinality until the economics become manageable.
